Today, May 25, is an interesting day in history.

On this day in 1961, Project Apollo, with the goal of "landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth before the decade is out" was announced.  This, of course, put the "Space Race" in full gear.

On this day in 1977, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was released.  Of course, it wasn't titled that back then.  "Episode IV: A New Hope" wasn't added to the title until the release of "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back", confusing us all in the theatre when "Episode V" scrolled across the screen.

It's hard to say which of the two items inspired more geek interest in space, but I'm thankful for both.
