Hockey, ITunes, and Canada

Tuesday, April 25, 2006 6:16 PM

Ottawa just wiped their collective @$$es with the Tampa Bay Lighting...8 - 5...oops, goal not counted...make the final 8 - 4. Weird scores for these playoffs, but very good hockey.

I was listening to the Diggnation podcast that came out a few weeks back (episode 41 I believe). Alex and Kevin were talking about how it sucked that so many of the kewl products out there never make it to the states. Seriously, you people in the States have NO idea how much it sucks up here in Canada! Never mind the fact that we can't even get TV shows off of ITunes up here (and btw, why is The Fray US only?! I tried to download their album tonight and I got a “This album is not available in Canada”. We have special “Canadian-only” models of laptops (which aren't as good as the states models out of the gate), we have older cell phones (all those nice new Windows Mobile 5.0 devices with the pull out Qwerty keyboards wont' get up here and to our carriers anytime soon), you guys have all the kewl breakfast cereals...

At one point we could at least say that we had free health care and weren't targets for terrorists. But in the last few months, we've seen more Canadians killed in Afghanastan and more reports that Canada could be a target...and we do have free health care, but just remember you get what you pay for.

Sorry for being a little bitter tonight...

Hey man, I know exactly where you're coming from. If I had to hold my breath until I got my hands on a Mobile 5.0 phone I'd be a corpse. Heck those southerns have the Nordiques and the Jets. They have Lord Stanley's mug, but I've got a feeling it's coming home this year.
They don't have some of what we love though. They don't have summer nights that are light until 10:30pm. They don't have the ability to proudly wear their flag on their backpacks when they travel internationally. They don't have the loonie, or the toonie, nor did they really have a two dollar bill. Watching the game right now, I'd also say that they don't have a hockey rink that's as jumping as Rexall Place is tonight!

Hope to catch up to you at DevTeach man. 4/26/2006 5:16 AM | Donald Belcham

Well...they could wear their flag on their backpack...but then they get shot at, booed, pissed, on, etc.
;)

And yeah...it's gotta get confusing having money that's all the same color...ours may look like Monopoly money, but you'll never give a 50 instead of a 5!

AWESOME game eh? Man, I bet you guys were shaking in your boots after Detroit came back and tied it up...I went to bed after the first OT (12:40 AM was late enough for me)...Glad to see they're making a series out of it though.

All you gotta do is make a phone call/email, send a check, and you can get whatever you want! :) 4/26/2006 11:02 AM | Jer

I knew there was a good reason to have you move to SJ
;)

I hope you've gotten over your loathing of the NHL now that the SHarks are in the playoffs...awesome hockey happening man.
