Heath Ledger as Joker and Superhero/Supervillain Alignment

Friday, July 28, 2006 11:46 AM

According to Filmwad, Heath Ledger has been offered the role of The Joker in the sequel to Batman Begins Interesting if its true...But then it got me thinking: who would be the “next generation” cast for batman baddies going forward? The nice thing about the newer, darker Batman is that you can actually cast people into roles where you know they'll take it seriously and not just the campy cramp that's been fed to us for so many years (case in point: Liam Neeson as Raas Al Ghul...awesome casting there). I think they need to shy away from the campier ones though: Poison Ivy, Riddler...even the Penguin...all need to be shelved in favor of some new blood: Joker can stay (you HAVE to have Joker in there somewhere), Raas Al Ghul should stay, Bane (not the Batman and Robin movie version either), or Black Spider...any others?

I also had a discussion with Chris Williams, and we were naming off what hte different D&D alignments would be for different superheros (see my previous post on RPG motivational posters for reference of where this started from...Superman being the image for the LG poster for example). We talked about a few obvious ones, but then came up on Venom...what IS Venom? We ended up agreeing that he'd be either NE or CN...he's not totally evil, but he's not necessarily good...but not because he's evil, because he's a little crazy in the head. Anyway, are there any characters that you can think of that might have not-so-obvious alignments, or that you think might be different than what everyone else thinks?

And finally...if anyone knows how to override the connection manager in Mobile 5.0, drop me an email. ;)

I gave it additional thought. Venom is definitely CN, with strong Evil tendancies. 7/28/2006 4:41 PM | Blogus Maximus

Oh and I hope they give the joker green dreadlocks like on "The Batman" cartoon. That is badass. Heath M'F'n Brokeback Mountain Joker Ledger.... wow. 7/28/2006 4:43 PM | Blogus Maximus
