TechEd Pulled from Big Easy

Tuesday, October 10, 2006 4:29 PM

Scott Ladewig pointed out a story about Microsoft moving TechEd and some other events out of New Orleans in 2007.

This means that we need to begin pushing MS to move Tech Ed to the obvious 2nd choice:

Fargo, North Dakota

No, I'm not drunk. No, I'm not high. Think about it: Fargo is practically the center of North America! No extreme locations to travel to, minimal time zone changes.

Alright...most importantly I could actually drive down. ;)

As would I. Now if only Fargo were big enough to accomodate the onslaught of geeks. And only if they had a hotel big enough for it. But they do have one of the main offices for Great Plains there (owned by MS).

However, Grand Forks may be a better choice (and not just because I went to school there). They have more hotels (with the creation of the Alerus Center and the Engelstad Arena), the seminars could be held at the Alerus (more than enough conference room), and a much more active Computer Science department (which I am sure I could convince to help out... should the remote possibility of North Dakota even be considered). As well, Amazon has a regional distribution office there as well (the last .NET UG speaker visited there not too long back and his son attends UND). Coincidence? I think not. 10/10/2006 9:17 PM | Kelly

I have actually been to Fargo for a week long vacation! The only reason you are pushing for it is that Fargo is basically Winnipeg but in the States instead of Canada...;) 10/11/2006 6:35 AM | Justice~!

Dude, you have no idea. We drove down to Grand Forks a month ago or so, and when we went to the mall I swear there was more Manitoba license plates than North Dakota ones.
