FINALLY I can play a Drow without just "pretending" (read: make my elf's skin black)!!!

Neverwinter Nights 2 Vault has some articles detailing the new premium races in the upcoming NWN 2, and one is...wait for it...DROW!

This is great news for those of us who played through the original NWN asking "Would it be THAT hard to make the Drow seperate from the regular Elves?" To which Bioware responded something to the tune of "Well...we probably should have thought of that, but we didn't, and the game's almost done, so we'll just say we didn't want to ruin the flow of the game by implementing sub races...I mean, then you'd need sub-races for dwarfs and gnomes and what not...and that would just complicate things...yeah, that sounds good."

Obviously the new company producing the game didn't think so, and we're getting Drow as well as Svirfneblin! (and some other race that isn't Drow, so who cares)

The only one that would have been a great addition would have been the Duergar...but I'm just happy that Drow are in as the prominent class they are.

Yet another game to fill the free hours which I don't have...sigh.

But both Duergar adn Svirfneblin are from Dragonlance! How would you explain their venture to the Forgotten Realms and into Neverwinter? Did they just happen to pass through an evil Ravenloft domain and end up there? Did the Spelljammer crashland on Faerun and they wandered in? Please elaborate and let us know how they would be there... 10/21/2006 12:49 PM | Kelly

Oh geeze Kelly...awkward...I mean, for the rest of eternity D&Ders will read your post and laugh and laugh and laugh...

The Duergar and Svirfneblin are both races in the Forgotten Realms setting (maybe they're from Dragonlance originally/too...I don't know).

In the Dark Elf trilogy, Drizzt is befriended by Belwar Dissingulp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belwar_Dissengulp); a svirfneblin from the Underdark city of Blindingstone.

And Duergar are all over the Forgotten Realms mythos. They tried to take Mithril Hall, their city is mentioned in the War of the Spider Queen series, etc.

So there. Mleh! :P
