Dammit Rob, that's not how to make friends!

Friday, January 26, 2007 1:00 PM

Hey, c'mon guys, Rob May was just putting his opinion out there...let's all have a big GWB hug and lovin-in...Kumbya...Kumbya...

But anyway, I wanted to voice my own opinion on part of Rob's comment...and not as a slag to Rob, but as a slag to the many who think the same thing as what Rob posted, and what I've even though before I started running with Vista. Here it is...ready?

Vista kicks the f#%$^'n s%#%t out of OS X.

There. I said it. Let all the Steve Job fanboys begin their flames.

I can make such a bold statement because I own a Mac. A 20" iMac to be precise. And let me tell you, from the look/feel department, Vista wins hands down. It's the little things:

- I love that I can view small previews of files as an icon. Being able to see the first slide of a Power Point file, or an image file, or even the first frame of a movie...much easier to identify what you need than simple icons.

- I love that I can see a preview of what's in my taskbar with a mouseover, including actual running video!!! Very kewl feature.

- I love Aero...its awesome. I love the fade in/fade out effect that it does. Going to XP, it just feels so Windows 98ish

- I love how easy it is to find things with the integrated desktop search. Try to find something natively in OS X using Finder...its garbage. Sure there are other 3rd party apps that you can plug in, but why should I have to clog up my system with add-ons when it should be a feature of the OS itself?

If there's one area that OS X wins out on, its the accessibility of their Widgets to Vista's Gadgets. Now...note I said "Accessibility". With OS X, you just click the mouse wheel and the widgets appear. Not so in Vista (or if so, please tell me how to set it up). But again, this is a SMALL thing.

Overall, Vista looks and feels alot smoother than OS X does. Vista is NOT just a copy of OS X, its an improvement over it. Now...when Leopard comes out, we'll see what Apple can do to match Vista...but until then Vista takes the Miss OS Pagent title.

You are *CRAZY*. About the only thing I like better about Vista is the fact that yes, Finder sucks. We'll talk about this later D'Arc...oh yes we'll talk. 1/26/2007 1:16 PM | Justice~!

That doesn't help me though...my laptop has the windows key in the top right corner of the keyboard!

Damn you Toshiba...

Thanks for the tip Tim

You can remap the Windows key (actually any key except for Fn) with registry hacks. Or for a more safe and cuddly experience, use KeyTweak:

Ja, the finder in apple kinda sucks, no thumbnail view. Aside from that Vista isn't better at all. WinFS would have made it rock for really, but it got clipped out - lame. 1/26/2007 2:53 PM | Dave C.
