100 Pushup Challenge

Tuesday, August 19, 2008 10:04 PM

So after Chris prodded me and since I’ve been heckling Rob on Twitter, I figured I should finally throw my hat in the ring for this 100 Pushup Challenge that’s become all the rage on Twitter and in the blogosphere.

In a nutshell:

See how many pushups you can do before you fail.
Compare that number with a chart to determine your starting level.
Begin doing a 6 week program that aims to get you to 100 pushups within a month and a half.

So tonight I hit the gym and tried for my max pushups. I hit 15, although the last one was a pretty big effort so I’m going to call it 14 which puts me in the second level.

So game on, let's see where this goes.

I am doing my Fitness Age test again tomorrow after 4 months of working out. I hope I can at least be in my middle ages as I was 67 last time instead of 27. Opps :D. I will post how many pushups I can do tomorrow. 8/21/2008 8:23 AM | Jeff Julian

Ok you've inspired me to try this thing too! I just did the initial test and got 14 push-ups as well, so we are starting at the same place. Hopefully we can both hit 100 push-ups in a couple months time!

I'm confused by 1 thing though: what is the purpose of the rank you are given? It isn't actually used anywhere in the actual program... 8/25/2008 9:03 AM | Dave Harris

@Dave:

"If you're concerned about your Rank in the extreme left column; there's no need. The scale of 1 to 7 is purely an indicator of current fitness, and can be used as a comparison tool between yourself, friends, family & co-workers."

There's no use in the program, its just a personal gauge.

Maybe we should have the Alt.Net push ups competition at the next devteach or open spaces? My record is 85 in two minutes on an Army PT test. 8/27/2008 5:55 PM | Jeff Tucker

Hey, thanks for getting the news out on this! I'm pretty keen to try it as well - will start this weekend if all goes well. 9/11/2008 2:03 AM | Henk
