Geeks With Blogs

Welcome to my blog.
Here's what we've got on the menu today:

Lorin Thwaits A geek says what?

My old Porsche 944 has been on the fritz lately, so I've been ridesharing with a friend.  Normally we leave the office around 6pm, and the commute takes around half an hour.  Leaving any earlier is such a waste as it takes twice as long, the majority of the time spent parked on an interstate breathing in fumes.  With two of us we can take advantage of the HOV lane, but still at that hour it is so utterly ineffective.  And I'm not interested in lending any additional support to big oil with countless hours idling the engine.  Especially since it comes at the expense of my health.  So usually for us the commute begins between 6pm and 7pm.  But yesterday I had to be home earlier, so we left at 5pm.  While grinding through rush hour traffic I couldn't help but think of the slick little Tango designed by the Commuter Cars guys.

Less than half the width of a normal car means you can double up the lanes, and get twice as much traffic through.  And being electric, there are zero issues with ozone, CO2, and other nasties.  Much better acceleration than the average car, better even than my turbocharged Porsche.  0-60 happens in 4 seconds.  Recharge time is quick: as short as 10 minutes to get to 80% charge.  What do you think it would take to convert America's rush hour to use this kind of awesome solution?

Hey Lorin...

I'm all for this, and I'd do it in a heartbeat if *everyone* agreed to it.

Unfortunately that's not the case and as long as the type of damage here: can be done to a 3/4 ton pickup that was stopped in traffic, I shudder to think what would have happened to a Tango!
