Vista Beta 2
I took the plunge on Saturday and installed Vista Beta 2 and Office 2007 Beta 2.á I am fairly impressed with Vista so far.á The 3D flip is prettyáfreaking cool and I love having the ability to type in the name of an executable in the start menu.áI have gotten a few errors and it does not seem to remember what you have open on the desktop when it goes into hibernate mode, but other than that it is working fine.á I also notice that browsing on the internet and changing OS settings are way more secure.á ......

I pity the fool … that collects those requirements!
Ok, so that was a bad A-Team reference... The features that Team System offers to organizations with mature requirements gathering and management processes are well documented. But what if you have a small group of business analysts or are just beginning to feel your way down that road? Out of the box, Team System provides many features that facilitate the job ofáthe business analysts in your organization. Team System provides many document management features through its use of SharePoint Services. ......

I have seen the future…and it is good.
If you have ever worked for a software company you will know how much of a pain it is to ghost machines for your test labs so that you can get a new release out the door.á Virtualization has made this quite a bit easier for sure, but there is a new product thatáextends this technology to an incredible degree.á Akimbi has a product called Slingshot which manages the deployment, creation and configuration of your virtual test environments.á This technology is called C3R (complex configuration, capture ......

I have a confession
So I have something I need to admit in public. Sometimes I do things the hard way. I came across a tool called the Process Template Editor a while back and scoffed. Why would I ever need anything other witexport, witimport and notepad? But, in a rush to get something done, I installed it to make some changes to a project. I was pleasantly surprised. It allows you to either export and work on your templates locally or modify them directly on the server. Of course local gives you some wiggle room. ......

MSSCCI Providers for TFS Version Control
Microsoft has released a MSSCCI Provider that allows Visual Studio 2003, VB6 SP6, VC++ 6 SP6, Visual FoxPro 9 SP1, MS Access 2003 SP2 and SQL Server Management Studio to interact with TFS Version control.á So if you can't use the full blown Team Explorer, at least you can get rid of Visual Source Safe. Happy Coding ......

First Look: Visual Studio Team System for Database Professionals
I sat in on the First Look for Team System's Database Professional Role. This is a very cool addition to the Team Suite and I think it is just another reason why this new product is going to revolutionize the industry. Most of the concepts as to why this is needed are not new. Many of us already know that placing your database objects under source control is a good idea. The problem was that this was not an easy sell before because it was difficult to manage large databases in this manner. Let's ......

More details on VSTS for Database Professionals
I got some more details this morning on the new role for Team System. Check it out on MSDN. There are some cool screen shots on the bottom of the page. Some really cool features that stick out are the automated testing for stored procedures, rename refactoring and data generation plans. I will blog more after the First Look on Friday. Also, MSDN shows the CTP being available starting the 11th of June. Happy Coding ......

Visual Studio Team System Designers
Team System ships with several modeling tools called designers. These are not UML based design tools and are tied directly to the Dynamic Systems Initiative that Microsoft is pushing. The designers included with VSTS are the Logical Data Center designer, the Application designer, the System designer, the Deployment designer and the Class designer. The Logical Data Center designer is used to model logical servers in your data center. You can create representations of servers and zones which represent ......

New Role for Team System
Microsoft announced its new DBA role for Team System yesterday! This is exciting because it extends the database project that was in 2003 and 2005 and includes features like adding procedure code to TFS source control with a single click and a tool that will show you the differences between schemas on two different databases (I assume like SQL Diff). I am attending a session next Friday and will blog with more details then. Happy Coding!
