Microsoft Live Mail Beta Invites Part II
Okay, apparently I left out a key piece of information … you have to leave me a MSN or HotMail email address to get in. These are the only domains I can send the invites to. Thanks!

Microsoft Office Dev Con 2006 Day 1
Day one at Office Dev Con 2006 was full of information. On the non-technical side, the people are great, the wifi is pervasive, the food is decent and plentiful and the fabled Microsoft coolers full of pop, juice and other beverages are always magically full. Perhaps they employ gnomes or house elfs? If I had one complaint is was distributing the Office 2007 beta 1 refresh to us via BetaPlace. We are on day two and we still don’t have our welcome emails so we can access the builds. For me, ......

Office Dev Con
Getting to the Microsoft campus for the first time last night was pretty exciting. Being dark, I couldn't see much outside of the conference center. Arriving back this morning, it was, as I expected: freaking awesome. Those of you who work here, live here or have been here ad nauseum, grant me my moment of geeky Microsoft joy. The buildings all rock and the “feel” of the campus is great. Everyone is very nice. Although not part of the conference I am going to see if I can scheme my way ......

Microsoft Office Dev Con
I am packing up for Office Dev Con and I wanted to send out a last broadcast for a geek dinner Monday or Tuesday night. Andrew Connell is also interested and I have had some emails of interest as well. Post a comment if you would like the information once it is set up. See you all there ......

Outlook 12 and RSS
I love the built-in RSS features of Outlook 12. However, the specifics seem a little blurry. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place. Perhaps it is just a technical beta! I can import an OPML file; but beyond that I don't see much or any customization. How often feeds are checked, how many to keep, etc. Hopefully more features, customization, etc. will be added as we move through the beta process. I would like to see: The ability to control some things globally via a RSS tab in TOOLS > OPTIONS ......

TechEd 2006 Tags?

Technorati tags for TechEd 2006? I know will have all the latest skinny, but watching the Technorati cloud for things not directly related is nice. You know, essentials like parties, geek dinners, friends, where is the good wifi, twinkies, etc.

Office Communicator in Vista February CTP (5308)
I recently blogged about problems I was having getting Office Communicator installed in the latest build of Vista. After a couple more things went south on me ( a lot in part to trying to get the Cisco VPN Client to work) I went back to Windows XP SP2. If you can believe it (I have never seen this happen before) installing Virtual PC SP1 totally hosed my wireless networking adapter. I tried everything including removing the device, re-detecting it, re-installing the driver, etc. Finally I decided ......

Windows Vista File Replacement Dialog - Now This is Helpful
Running the February CTP of Vista (5308) I am presented with this dialog box when overwriting files during a copy. I can only assume they think we know left to right is source to target but some more meaningful labels and dialog would be helpful! I cannot wait to see Beta 2 … ......

Office Communicator Woes on Vista February CTP
I’d like to think I can solve any problem. However, getting Office Communicator to install on the February CTP of Vista has got me quite perplexed! It will get all the way to the end of the install, then say it encountered an “error” and roll back. You know, that installation progress bar in reverse we all hate to see? I even tried to run the .msi in verbose logging mode, but the User-Mode protection in Vista wont let me create the log file. A plain ‘ol text file! Come on! ......

Aero Glass With the Toshiba M200
W00t! I have Aero Glass with the Toshiba M200 and the February CTP 5308 build of Vista. I downloaded the nVida driver found here. I have a nVidia GForce Go 5200. Installing the driver in the “INF – Right Click” install method they outline did not work, nor did doing an Upgrade Driver on my video card in Device Manager. I had to select the video card, tell it to let me manually choose a driver and then tell it I had a disk and I would select the driver from it. I then browsed to ......

Microsoft and Cisco Collaborate on RTC
Microsoft and Cisco announce that around September they may have some tools to unify and integrate Microsoft’s LCS, Office Communicator and Live Meeting applications with Cisco’s Unified Communications. This seems like a natural match and I can only wonder why it took this long. Clearly, Microsoft has been making more inroads in to what have traditionally been telephony-only environments. With more and more communications moving to pure IP networks, both Cisco and Microsoft have an interest ......

Verizon Wireless Technical Support
I just got off of the phone with Verizon Wireless technical support. I was braced for the worst, especially hearing the horror stories when trying to get technical information on Treos and different mobile offerings. Boy was I surprised! The gentleman that helped me was knowledgeable, friendly and got me turned around in a short amount of time. I had trouble getting their PC Card software, VZ Access, to work under the latest build of Windows Vista (February CTP 5308). As it turns out, the software ......

Windows Vista Tablet PC February CTP Rocks!
I took the plunge after reading a couple of reviews of the November CTP and all I can say is wow! I am running a Toshiba M200 with the February CTP build of Vista (5308) and the “tablet” experience is phenomenal. I haven't had to load a single driver! Well, I did have to load the beta nVidia driver for my GeForce go 5200 to get the Aero Glass. Otherwise, everything is working “out of the box.” Now, I should disclaimer that – there are a few Toshiba-specific gadgets that ......

Offline Address Book Woes
Now playing: Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Goin Down I have run in to problems with the Offline Address Book an amazing number of times; and more often than not, on brand-new Exchange 2003 installs. Some of the common fixes, like rebuilding the OAB or deleting it and creating a new one, don't often work. The Outlook 2003 client is stuck with the infamous 0x8004010F error. After reading this article at I downloaded the mentioned OABInteg utility and had my problem fixed in about 5 minutes. ......

TechEd Bloggers is Live
Jeff Julian does a great job with this site and building the community around it at TechEd. The site is now live, so if you are going to be at TechEd and you blog,  sign up and get your blog feed included. They asked all this information as well when I registered for TechEd, and I will be curious to see if there is any cross-pollination. See you in the land of crabs and tea!

Tech*Ed Birds of a Feather Submissions Being Accpeted
The Tech*Ed website is now accepting submissions for the Birds of a Feather discussion sessions. If you have not experienced these before, they are a great time! Once all the submissions are in, attendees are encouraged to vote for their favorite sessions. These are not presentations, but “moderated” discussions in front of a white board where you are free to discuss whatever the group would like to that is relevant to the topic of that session. I hosted two BoF talks at last year’s ......
