Technically Speaking All in on IT

I read with great interest another view on the iPhone from Michael Robertson who always has an interesting angle on any system or manufacturer that is "closed." I agree with a lot of his points. I am also very disappointed in the way that Apple and AT&T control this device, its usage and its extensibility and customization. In effect, they believe the only way it can be successful is to so totally control the experience that it will be utterly the same for everyone. It will also be rock-solid dependable, but unfortunately, to insure this they limit the device to the technical lowest common denominator. Most people have estimated that over the life of the two year contract (assuming you purchase the cheapest plan) you will spend roughly $2500.00 not counting a single post-purchase accessory. That's a lot of money for 450 rollover minutes and 200 SMS messagesĀ a month (45 cents for each additional minute over) on a dog-slow EDGE network. Michael recommends the Nokia E61i. One of these would rock as well.
