Identity Information Protection Act of 2006, SB 768, in California has passed the State Senate. The only thing left is for the governor to sign the bill into law. SB 768 only affects the use of RFID by local government (state, county, et al.) and has the following safeguards:
- All data must be encrypted
- Mutal authentication process to prevent unauthorized reads
- Transmission of personal information under owner's control only
